Shooting Sports
The 4-H agent helped organize the senior-age shooting sports contest on March 30th to determine the teams for the State Shooting Sports Contest. The 4-H agent was responsible for sending out the registration packets for the event, conducting registration, running the archery shoot, compiling results, awards, and submitting the results to the five local newspapers.
The State 4-H Shooting Sports contest was held in Colfax County in May where the 4-H agent assisted with the pistol shoot competition. The Colfax County 4-H Council along with the Colfax County 4-H agent, Agricultural Agent, and the County Director helped organize a dance for the event. Colfax County was represented by five senior age 4-Hers.
The Northeast District 4-H Shooting Sports Contest was hosted by Colfax County this summer. The agent was responsible for mailing out registration packets to the counties in the district, ordering ribbons, preparing score sheets, and conducting the awards ceremony.

County Contest
Teams that competed in livestock, horse, poetry, shooting sports, favorite food show, prepared speech, entomology, range plant, and fashion revue were coached by the 4-H and Ag agent with help from the County Director. Twelve youth participated at county contest held in Maxwell, at the Maxwell Auditorium. The 4-H agent was responsible for sending out the entry forms for county contest and helping the host club prepare for the contests. At the contest the 4-H agent was responsible for registration and for the awards ceremony. These annual 4-H contests offered novice and junior, 4-Hers an opportunity to prepare and/or qualify for the district and/or state level 4-H contests.
District Contest
Ten youth participated at district contest held over a two day period in Roy at the high school and the community building. The agent assisted with the horse judging contest and with the transportation of students to the contest.
State Conference
Colfax County had nine participates at state conference in Las Cruces this year. Some honorable mentions are the Favorite food individuals which placed first and second and the talent show individual was awarded second place. Colfax County also had a member elected to the State Officer team. The agent assisted with the horse judging contest along with chaperoning four members from Colfax County.

Horse Club
The 4-H agent with help from office staff and project leaders spent numerous hours working on practices for the Colfax County Horse Club. The club would meet on Friday afternoons with six members from three of the clubs in Colfax County to help them prepare for the Horse Shows that were to be attended throughout the summer.
Horse Shows
The 4-H agent organized the annual Spring Horse Show in Springer at the Colfax County Fair Grounds, which allowed youth participants from Quay, Colfax, Bernalillo, Mora, Harding, and Union counties to gain horsemanship and equitation skills through a fun play day of horse related competition. There were 32 competitors for the Spring Horse Show. The agent was in charge of contacting a judge, ordering the ribbons, sending out the entry forms, getting donations for the high point buckets, and being the score keeper for the event.
The agent also assisted the treasurer of the Colfax County Fair Association to organize and coordinate the Colfax County Fair Horse show which had participants from Colfax, Mora, and Bernalillo counties. There were a total of 28 contestants. The agent was responsible for mailing out the entry forms, ordering the ribbons, preparing the arena, was the official timer for the event.
NM State 4-H Horse School
The 4-H agent assisted the 12 participants that attended Horse School. The 4-H agent was assisted by one of the Johnson Mesa 4-H club leaders along with 2 parents. The 4-H agent was responsible for making sure the members horses had been fed, watered, and stalls had been cleaned. Curfews had to be enforced by the 4-H agent. The 4-H agent also participated in the adult class that was offered to bring back those exercises for the Horse Club to practice.

Both the new and veteran leaders have jumped into their new roles with increasing confidence and success. To increase enrollment, the current Colfax County 4-H members along with the 4-H agent recruited new members throughout the county at schools with classroom visits and on the radio through interviews that the radio announcer did with the 4-H agent.
Newsletters
The 4-H agent compiles the monthly newsletter, which reaches 65 families in Colfax County. The 4-H agent includes dates of shows, deadlines for registrations for retreats, and competitions, results for prior events, upcoming sales, events, and birthdays.
Colfax County 4-H Council
The 4-H agent assists the officer team with the agenda for the County Council meetings, along with help in preparing the minutes for the meeting. The 4-H agent assists the Colfax County 4-H Council treasurer in writing the financial report and offers guidance to officers during the meeting.
Awards Banquet
The 4-H agent assisted in the preparation for the annual 4-H banquet to honor 4-H and FFA members who have won honors in the livestock and indoor exhibit areas of the county fair. The total attendance for the banquet, held at the First United Methodist Church catered by K-Bob’s Restaurant in Raton, was 72 4-H and FFA youth, parents, guests, and donors. Forty-nine plaques were awarded to 25 youth during a power point presentation showing the county fair in review as well as each individual winner. The
4-H agent was responsible for seeking donors for the plaques, acquiring the facility to host the event, sending correspondence to 4-H members, leaders, and donors, billing donors, ordering plaques, preparing the program, developing the power point presentation, also taking money at the door, and helped clean after the banquet.
