Impact Report | Horse Club The 4-H agent with help from office staff and project leaders spent numerous hours working on practices for the Colfax County Horse Club. The club would meet on Friday afternoons with six members from three of the clubs in Colfax County to help them prepare for the Horse Shows that were to be attended throughout the summer. Horse Shows The 4-H agent organized the annual Spring Horse Show in Springer at the Colfax County Fair Grounds, which allowed youth participants from Quay, Colfax, Bernalillo, Mora, Harding, and Union counties to gain horsemanship and equitation skills through a fun play day of horse related competition. There were 32 competitors for the Spring Horse Show. The agent was in charge of contacting a judge, ordering the ribbons, sending out the entry forms, getting donations for the high point buckets, and being the score keeper for the event. The agent also assisted the treasurer of the Colfax County Fair Association to organize and coordinate the Colfax County Fair Horse show which had participants from Colfax, Mora, and Bernalillo counties. There were a total of 28 contestants. The agent was responsible for mailing out the entry forms, ordering the ribbons, preparing the arena, was the official timer for the event. NM State 4-H Horse School The 4-H agent assisted the 12 participants that attended Horse School. The 4-H agent was assisted by one of the Johnson Mesa 4-H club leaders along with 2 parents. The 4-H agent was responsible for making sure the members horses had been fed, watered, and stalls had been cleaned. Curfews had to be enforced by the 4-H agent. The 4-H agent also participated in the adult class that was offered to bring back those exercises for the Horse Club to practice. |
