Impact Reports
4-H Shooting Sports Orientation & Basic Archery Workshops: This agent prepared materials stressing different 4-H Shooting Sports disciplines, project and contest guidelines for the shooting sports program. Due to incumbent weather, only one youth attended, so he mailed the materials to those who requested the materials. Similarly, he arranged for a basic archery workshop with three instructors and was set up outside for the event. Once again bad weather prevailed, the equipment was returned to storage and one member was able to arrive after the instructors had left. He worked with this youth on the archery requirements, checked her equipment and sent her home with handout materials. Two youth learned about firearms and archery safety and the Bernalillo County 4-H Shooting Sports programs. Both developed skills and competed at the County Shooting Sports competition.
4-H Achievement Night: The Bernalillo County 4-H Staff and County 4-H Council hosted the annual 4-H Achievement night for the past year’s accomplishments. This Agent’s part was to recognize the 4-H Shooting Sports and 4-H Rodeo ticket sales, and sponsors sales achievers with cash incentives. The audience was ninety-five adults and youth. Twenty youth were recognized for their accomplishments in the 4-H Shooting Sports prject area. Two youth were awarded a $50 and a $100 cash award for high individual 4-H Rodeo ticket sales and high individual Rodeo Sponsor sales respectively. High sales 4-H Club Awards were $50 & $100 for the same categories. This was only one of three agent's contributions. There were about 400 recognized accomplishments for the total program for the past year.
Recruiting 4-H Members through Open House: The Bernalillo County 4-H Staff invited the general public who completed “4-H interest” forms distributed at the County and NM State fairs. Over 100 people attended the orientation and visited club booths to join 4-H. This is one way we are trying to reach diverse audiences and making all reasonable efforts to recruit youth and increase membership. 4-H Members and 4-H Leaders manned tables and displayed different project areas of interest to their particular club. About 50% of those attending learned about 4-H and the other 50% shared their knowledge about 4-H.
Agent was responsible for 4-H and FFA Horse Judging Teams, practices and coaching. Agent also assisted as an instructor at State 4-H Horse School, and served as adivsor to the State 4-H Rodeo Board.
George (Pete) Walden has signed on to support Youth Development within Grant County.
