Session 4 Nutrition: 50/50 plate/needs
Goals: Have group share about one accomplishment and one challenge
Continue with the plan that was established at the beginning of your TLC group
The students learned to incorporate balance of nutrients and portion control, reviewed the Portion Control power point presented by Home Economist and learned the strategies for 50/50 plate model.
Activity: With colored markers the students divided the plate in half and then into quarters, they labeled each quarter with a different title fruit, vegetable, protein and the last quarter grains. The students then listed 3 of their favorite foods under each category and continued the activity over the next week. The program sessions continued throughout the summer. The students have made much progress toward their goals and continue to be physically active as required by this program. The 12 students met once a week and completed 4 sessions in June of 2009. This program has been provided for Wellness Warriors at the request of Carole Conely, Teen Lifestyle Program Director.

They too prepared several recipes during class time and were surprised that the recipes were very tasty and easy to prepare.
