Southwest Beef Symposium
The agent worked to get a group of producers to come to the extension office to attend the conference via centra to save money on travel and lodging. The agent was successful in getting five producers to attend via centra however, they only participated for the one day due to technical difficulties. The information obtained was beneficial because one of the producers said for 2012 he would attend in person.

Farmer Rancher Drought Workshop
The agent worked with the NMSU Extension Beef Specialist and representatives from the State Soil and Conservation District and the Farm Service Agency to host a half day event where information was given about early weaning, programs available to producers from the Farm Service Agency and the Soil Conservation. A representative from Silvus Grass Insurance was on hand to present on the forage insurance that had been sold in this area and the problems that arose due to a failure with the satellites. There were 22 participants in attendance from a five county radius. It was reported back that as a result of this workshop 90% of the producers did wean their calves early. The afternoon after the workshop a rain storm came the first one in 83 days so a participant from the workshop called in and said "it was such a good workshop it even brought moisture."

Noxious Weed Survey
The agent worked with two individuals a professor and a grad student from the University of New Mexico on a second Noxious Weed Impact Study. The agent was responsible for contacting 20 producers that had participated in the study in June of 2010. The research is looking at how the drought has affected the noxious weed infestations that had been treated the year before. There were ten identified weeds that were selected in 2010 and all the producers had one or all of these weeds on their farms or ranches. The results of the surveys are still being analyzed and should be out by Mid-March of 2012.

Range Worm Survey
The agent assisted in identifying a range worm outbreak in the southwestern part of the county for a second year in a row. The agent contacted a neighboring agent to assist with the evaluation of the outbreak. The agent helped the producers flag the infestations over a ten mile radius and spray. As a result the producers were able to stop the windrowing of the range worms in two days. This resulted in a $10,000 savings of the grass that would have been affected if not treated in a timely manner. The agent and another agent have been working with another University on using glue traps to catch the larva that are missed during the spraying.
