Santa Fe County 4-H has a very strong county council consisting of representation from all the clubs within the county. This year's team of county council officers consisted of 7 members from 4 different clubs. The 4-H agents worked with the team throughout the year to provide leadership training. The year began with an in depth officer training and planning session. The team examined their roles as officers, and became familiar with one another by completing a low ropes challenge course. The team was taken exercises where they were able use analytical skills, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and work together as a team to complete several physical challenges. The team also became fully aware of their obligations as officers and planned their calendar for the upcoming year at the training.
Members from Santa Fe County attended several leadership events at both the county and state level. 23 members attended Senior Leadership Retreat, 9 members attended Youth Get-Away, 9 members attended State 4-H Conference, and 12 members attended the county Cloverbud Day Camp.
Santa Fe County also had 2 members apply for positions on the State Diplomat and Ambassador teams. As a result 1 member from Santa Fe County was selected to serve as a state diplomat.

Throughout the year the officer team met periodically to plan activities and prepare for meetings. The officer team put on a workshop for county members on parliamentary procedure. The team gave a presentation and led hands on activities that helped illustrate the fundamentals of Roberts Rules of Order. The team was able to present this work shop at a County Fair Board meeting as well as a county council meeting.
The officer team was also instrumental in planning and conducting the County Contest Carnival. Members of the team conducted activities at each of the carnival booths helping 4-Hers learn about the various contests offered at the county level.
Of the 6 members on the team 100% currently serve as officers within their own clubs as well as serving in leadership positions in other organizations such as student council and FFA. All of them plan to continue serving in a leadership role in the upcoming year.

Coordinated NM State 4-H Shooting Sports Contest in Raton, NM at the NRA Whittington Center. Senior age 4-H members participated in the event to demonstrate proficiencies in various shooting disciplines. Top placed teams qualified for the national event in June. There were 210 youth competing. (Increase of 35 4-Her’s from 2006.)
Presented 4-H Shooting Sports clinic at Lincoln County Ag. Days in Capitan, NM. Ag. Day is a multi-agency school field day focusing on introduction fifth graders to agriculture and its contribution to our live. Approximately 250students from Capitan Schools attended.
Coordinated the planning of NM State 4-H Horse School. 221 4-H members and leaders from New Mexico participated. The objective of the school is to assist 4-H members with their horsemanship skills as well as give the opportunities to learn more about the horse by attending equine related workshops. Leaders participate in sessions as well to take the program to their home counties and develop similar type educational events. Further introduced animal ID act through workshop by New Mexico Livestock Board and career development workshops. Evaluations indicated that audience was very favorable to the new focus. Received sponsorship of school from Horseman’s Supply and New Mexico Livestock Board.

The objective of the school is to assist 4-H members in learning about their livestock projects thru a variety of teaching methods. The methods range from hands on sessions to classroom type workshops. 4-H members and leaders learn showmanship, ethics, feeding and overall management of their projects. The educational curriculum is offered to 4-H participants in the following species of beef, dairy cattle, sheep, swine and meat goat. Received sponsorships from Southwest Dairy Producers, Ranch-Way and ADM Feeds.
Coordinated 16 agriculture and natural resources related contests for NM State 4-H Conference. 4-H members from across New Mexico participate in contest events geared to test senior aged 4-H member’s subject member’s knowledge. Over 300 4-H members participated in these related contests.

Here youth from across the state experience challenge through a series of events to show their combined knowledge and skills in archery, muzzleloader, hunting, and orienteering. This specialist assisted with conducting the contest. Approximately 120 youth participated.

Conservation Day is a multi-agency school field day focusing on introduction fifth graders to wildlife management, waterfowl, water use, fishing, archery and shooting sports. Over 167 students from 7 schools in Catron, Socorro and Valencia Counties attended. Other participating agencies were: NM Game and Fish, US Fish and Wildlife, US Forest Service and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

The agent worked with the team throughout the year to provide leadership training. The year began with an indepth officer training and planning session. The team examined their roles as officers, became familar with one another by completing team building challenges and a scavenager hunt, and became fully aware of their obligations for the upcoming year. The officers also planned their calendar for the upcoming year. Throughout the year the officer team met periodically to plan activities and prepare for meetings. The officer team put on a workshop for county members entitled "This is 4-H". Each member of the team prepared and delivered a workshop focusing on one part of the 4-H program. Members got to learn about the different activities and opportunities available to them through 4-H. The officer team also planned several fun activites including a movie night, and a ghost tour in Albuquerque's old town district. Of the 6 members on the team 100% currently serve as officers within their own clubs and 2 currently serve as state diplomats and ambassadors. All of them plan to continue serving in a leadership role in the upcoming year.
