SANDOVAL COUNTY 4-H PROGRAMS
The Sandoval County 4-H program is committed to providing an educational curriculum and related learning experiences for youth in 4-H Clubs, school enrichment and special interest groups. The 4-H Agent worked diligently to promote 4-H and provide educational opportunities through the following programs and workshops that will continue for the future.
*EROSION CONTROL - A workshop to teach water conservation, protection of our water resources and riparian ecology utilizing the Rolling Rivers demonstration trailer. Program Director of the School stated "You have enhanced and enriched our students' science studies beyond measure! The hands on activities associated with the water trailer was met with great enthusiasm and understanding. Our campus took a beating this summer due to heavy rainfall, so our students are capable now of citing the evidence of soil erosion here at school."
*HATCHING CHICKS - An embryology curriculum - Held at the Enchanted Hills Elementary School the Directors stated "that the study of the fertilized chicken eggs has been met with great excitement as well. The eggs have been candled, notes taken, and now the anticipation of the hatching of chicks any day! You have certainly gotten the students interested in science!"
*SANTO DOMINGO FARM & RANCH EXPO - 4-H Agent presented the benefits of 4-H for youth and how 4-H can be a part of maintaining farming and livestock traditions within the Pueblo.
*CAREER FAIR - Held at Mountain View Middle School, Rio Rancho. 4-H Agent and Home Economist presented career opportunities within Agriculture and how a career in Extension or Home Economics can be rewarding. The Counselor stated that "because of your participation, it was a very successful community collaboration effort. Thank you for impacting our students in such a positive way. Together WE can make a DIFFERENCE!"
*NEW MEXICO BRED & RAISED STEER SHOW - An opportunity to showcase New Mexico Beef industry and an opportunity for youth to exhibit their 4-H projects.
*EARTH DAY AT SANTO DOMINGO AND SANTA ANA PUEBLOS - Showcased the livestock projects through a petting zoo and provided 4-H Program brochures. The Governor of Sandia Pueblo stated "The generosity and support of NMSU 4-H helped to make our 11th Annual Earth Day an overwhelming success."
*STARBUCK'S SPRING HORSE SHOW - An annual event for Sandoval County and surrounding counties. Youth are able to compete and practice for other district and state shows.
*HEALTH FAIR - Held at Cuba High School, it was an opportunity to promote 4-H and demonstrate how 4-H can address some at- risk issues facing our youth.
*KEWA HEALTH EXPO - Held at the Santo Domingo Pueblo, 4-H Agent presented a workshop on ATV Safety. With hundreds of particpants, the Office of the Governor and Tribal Council stated that we provided valuable information to their community and they hope to have similar type events in the future.
