ATV Safety
Curry County 4-H agent presented the ATV Safety workshop at the Clovis Farm Safety Day Camp. 4th Graders from Curry, Roosevelt, and Quay counties in NM and Parmer County in Texas along with teachers and parents attended Progressive Farm Safety Day at the fairgrounds in Clovis, NM. 954 youth, teachers, and parents were instructed on safety equipment, laws, proper riding techniques, and safe handling of an ATV. Youth were quizzed by the instructor at the end of the workshop on each of these areas and knowledge was gained in all areas taught.

School Enrichment
Curry County 4-H through the 4-H agent and the program assistant were able to make presentations to 2,516 youth this past year. 1,858 of those youth attended programs through school enrichment visits and 658 were part of programs through the 4-H Afterschool program. School Enrichment programs were conducted in all school districts in Curry County and in Friona, Texas. Programs that were used in the schools this past year include Egg to Chick, Leadership, Germ Detective, Dirt Babies, and Ice Cream in a Bag.

Showmanship and feeding techniques were the focus of the summer livestock workshops. Individuals brought their livestock projects to the fairgrounds and worked on showing their animals. Youth were instructed by Office Staff, FFA teachers, and volunteer leaders on proper techniques for showing. Youth were also instructed on proper grooming and show day preparation. Animals were evaluated for their final progress through the summer feeding program and final adjustments were made to improve exhibits before exhibition in county fair. Fifty-six youth were involved in these workshops. Improvements in showmanship were observed while at the workshops and re-evaluated again during county fair and progress was made with all individuals in attendance of these workshops.

Youth were involved in competition and attended workshops developing leadership, teamwork, and hands on skills. One youth from Curry County was re-elected to the State 4-H Leadership team as the 4-H president. Youth competed in events such as wool judging, fashion revue, land judging, horticulture, horse judging, livestock judging, meats judging, and public speaking contests. Throughout the week of competition curry county youth received fourteen individual awards and nine team awards. Youth reflected that they enjoyed the conference and that many of them made new friends and learned new activities they could use in Curry County programming.

Southeast District 4-H Horse Show
Curry County hosted the Southeast District 4-H Horse Show in June. The 4-H agent was responsible for answering questions, sending entry forms, and organizing the event. Office staff and volunteer leaders setup courses the day of the show, assisted judges in the ring, and assisted with announcing, tabulation, timing, working gates and assisting exhibitors.
