Horse Activities:
District Horse Show: The Agent organized the District Horse Show in Belen, NM at the Valencia County Fair Grounds, which allowed youth participants from the NW District to compete for qualification for the State 4-H Horse Show. 32 4-H youth competitors representing seven counties participated in the event. The Agent was responsible for contacting a judge, ordering the ribbons, sending out the entry forms, getting donations for buckles and buckets, and being the score keeper for the event.
State 4-H Horse School: 9 novice, junior and senior 4-H’ers from Valencia County participated in this statewide event held in Albuquerque, New Mexico in June. The youth who participated in this event had a hands-on learning experience with their horse as well as with other youth from the state and increased their life and leadership skills that include self-confidence, self-esteem, communication skills, and teamwork.

Shooting Sports
The Agent helped plan and organize the senior shooting sports contest on March 29th to determine the teams for the State Shooting Sports Contest. The Agent was responsible for sending out the registration packets for the event, and conducting registration the day of the event. The Agent help keep time and score for various shooting events. The Agent was responsible for gathering registrations from the senior 4-Hers who qualified for the State 4-H Shooting Contest and making sure all participants and their equipment from Valencia County made it to the State Shooting Competition which was held in Raton, NM in May.
Novice Fun Fest:
The Agent works with county community clubs to plan, prepare and conduct this annual event which promotes the various projects offered through the 4-H program. This event gives junior and senior 4-H members the opportunity to showcase and demonstrate the 4-H projects they have worked on during their 4-H careers. 50 people attended this event which gave our novice 4-Hers the opportunity to have hands-on learning experiences of many of the different projects offered in 4-H. 40% of the youth in attendance said they learned something new about a project they wanted to enroll in the next 4-H year.

The Agent prepares a countywide newsletter that is mailed to 200 4-H members, leaders, and supporters. This newsletter is sent out every two months and includes recent events, award recognition, upcoming events, state 4-H news, and any other information that needs attention within the county. The newsletter increases awareness of and participation in countywide 4-H events as well as District and State events. This newsletter is the most effective way of communicating news to the Valencia County 4-H Community.

County 4-H Council:
The Agent acts as an advisor to the county council. The Agent assists the county council officers in preparing meeting agendas and business to be conducted as well as minutes from the meetings and treasurers reports. By working hand in hand with the youth, the youth gain leadership and business skills they will use later in life.
