Small Animal Workshop
9 youth and 9 leaders enrolled in the small animal projects attended a Small Animal Workshop. Participants gained knowledge in animal and human safety, proper usage of equipment/tack, grooming techniques and basic showmanship. Youth participating in the training increased knowledge and skills related to critical thinking, positive sportsmanship, self-motivation and goal setting.

4-H Welding Workshop
8 youth and 3 leaders enrolled in the welding project attended a Welding Workshop. Participants gained knowledge in arc welding and safety, proper usage of equipment, torch cutting techniques and basic grinding. Youth participating in the training increased knowledge and skills related to critical thinking, self-motivation and goal setting.

NM STATE 4-H LIVESTOCK SCHOOL
State Goat School was attended by approximately 57 youth and 12 adults from New Mexico and Arizona. County 4-H Agent served as assistant instructor. Youth received hands-on training related to husbandry, disease prevention, showmanship and ethics. Youth increased mastery and independence related to critical thinking, goal setting and self esteem. Participant wrote, “I really appreciate what you did for me and all the students at goat school. I have decided to move to the next level and try State Fair.”
14 youth and 2 adults from Sandoval County attended livestock school.

“THIS IS 4-H”
4-H Agent presented this workshop at 4 locations in Sandoval County. The workshop was designed to introduce the 4-H program to youth in urban settings and on the reservation. 160 youth gained an understanding of 4-H and how 4-H can assist them to gain self confidence, skills in personal development, communication and leadership. Youth learned about the 4-H pledge, projects offered, age requirements and club information. Youth participated in hands-on activities related to life skills and how these skills are an integral part of 4-H and their future. As a result of these workshops, interest and inquiries about 4-H has increased. Enrollment increased in the Rio Rancho/ Corrales area and on the reservation by 41% and 8%, respectively.

4-H Agent in collaboration with Bernalillo High School enrolled 10 special needs students into a 4-H club, “Bernalillo Warriors.” Through monthly presentations and hands-on workshops students gained knowledge in ceramics, agriculture/horticulture and nutrition. 100% of youth gained skills relating to self-worth, belonging and camaraderie. 16 creatively designed hands-on projects from the club were displayed at County Fair. 2 were displayed at State Fair.
