Long-term Objectives
1. Contribute to the advancement and body of knowledge on youth development educational efforts statewide and nationally.
2. Develop program connectivity to other schools in the district and the surrounding geographic area.
3. Establish 1 to 3 new science center in New Mexico.
Obj. 1 - Two articles about the Center have been published in peer-reviewed publications and two abstracts have been published in national conference proceedings.
Obj. 2 – In light of the current economic situation, attempts to increase program connectivity have not been initiated.
Obj. 3 – No attempts to establish new centers undertaken due to lack of research on program impact.

A new program, Renewable Energy, was developed and pilot tested with 8th grade science classes. The students learned what renewable energy is, why it is important, and the pros and cons of using each type of renewable energy.
A GPS program was developed and pilot tested with 7th and 8th grade classes to supplement their studies on determining area, perimeter, measurement, and using GPS technology.
A LEGO Robotics unit was also developed this year with the intention of pilot testing it in the upcoming year and to be delivered through an 8th grade advanced class. A partnership has also been formed with River Source where a select group of 8th grade students will assist them in their Watershed Watch program.

The Agent worked closely with Memorial Middle School faculty to successfully integrate Center teaching and learning engagement activities in Memorial Middle School core curriculum.
An existing program, a wind energy unit, was delivered to 6th grade students. These students learned what wind energy is, why it is useful, how wind turbines work, and finished by building mini turbines themselves and creating their own mini wind farms.
