A nondiscrimination statement will be used on all Home Economics publications and flyers.
During the 2007-2008 program year, the agent offered 10 Spanish-language programs. Topics included parenting, nutrition, food safety, diabetes and family finance. These programs were offered in County Community Resource Centers, at the County Government Center, Public Elementary Schools and at Community Agencies. Programs were offered in Las Cruces, Chaparral, San Miguel, Rincon, and Anthony.
The agent also had Spanish language material available at all community events in which the agent participated. These community events included Diabetes Wellness Day, Las Cruces Home and Lifestyle Show, National Night Out and the Hatch Chile Festival. The total number of attendees at these events was over 7,000.
Agent will discuss civil rights with Extension Clubs: Every year clubs sign a recertification statement that states NMSUs civil rights policy on non-discrimination. The agent presented the form at a council meeting to explain the policy and address any questions. All four clubs signed the recertification statement.
The agent also had Spanish language material available at all community events in which the agent participated. According to U.S. Census data, Doņa Ana County has a significant percentage of Spanish-speaking residents, which is 54%. Doņa Ana County also includes 37 of New Mexicos 55 federally designated underdeveloped communities, also referred to as colonias. Therefore it is crucial for Extension to offer programming in Spanish in order to reach clientele all clientele in Doņa who are in need of Extension resources.
