Impact Report Agent will make every effort to provide extension programming to all audiences including Spanish-speaking audiences: According to U.S. Census data, Doņa Ana County has a significant percentage of Spanish-speaking residents, which is 54%. Doņa Ana County also includes 37 of New Mexico’s 55 federally designated underdeveloped communities, also referred to as “colonias.” Therefore it is crucial for Extension to offer programming in Spanish in order to reach clientele all clientele in Doņa who are in need of Extension resources. During the 2006-2007 program year, the agent offered 21 Spanish-language programs. Topics included parenting, nutrition, food safety, diabetes and family finance. These programs were offered primarily in County Community Resource Centers, but were also offered at elementary and high schools. Programs were offered in Las Cruces, Anthony, Doņa Ana, Mesquite, San Miguel, Hatch and Organ. A flyer describing services available through the Doņa Ana County Extension Office was also translated into Spanish. This bilingual flyer is handed out during programs, at community events and at meetings with other agencies and organizations. Agent will discuss civil rights with Extension Clubs: Every year clubs sign a recertification statement that states NMSU’s civil rights policy on non-discrimination. The agent presented the form at a council meeting to explain the policy and address any questions. All four clubs signed the recertification statement.
