Hidalgo County CES was internally audited by the Civil Rights Committee in May 2010. The auditors submitted suggestions of changes or additions that needed to be made and the office is making progress on making those changes. The Hidalgo County CES is in compliance to the best of its abilities with filing of proper documentation for its files.

Terry Canup from NMSU Civil Rights Resource center came and looked over Hidalgo County Cooperative Extension Service civil rights files. He advised the faculty and staff on files that needed to be updated to maintain proper requirements. He also answered questions about Civil Right requirements. This will help our office be in compliance if and when we have a civil rights audit or clientele wish to see them.

In this office, I have attained all of my goals relating to my short term objectives. Each time a new staff person is hired they are trained on filling out proper paperwork and filing it in the proper file. All printed matter includes the nondiscrimination statement making it clear to the recipient that Hidalgo CES is compliant with Civil Rights laws. In the case of programming and activities there is always the availability of reasonable accomodations for individuals with disabilites. These are extremely important so that the office has actions and documentation supporting its compliance with Civil Rights laws. All persons involved in programs (staff and participants) are impacted by these results.
