Volunteer Leadership:
Four volunteer leaders attended the organizational leader meeting, in order to bring them up-to-date with various 4-H policies in New Mexico. It also served as a great question and answer session, so that the agent to better identify needs of the clubs. Three organizational leaders attended volunteer related training. One leader attended the Shooting Sports Leaders Certification training, so he could properly provide instruction for 4-H members in the archery discipline. Seeking a need to renew and discover ideas related to club programming, two leaders attended the Western Regional Leaders Forum in Alaska.

The volunteer leaders have done an outstanding job in 2009-2010 year.
Several club leaders volunteered their time this past spring to assist the 4-H agent in counducting project workshops. Workshops were conducted for Leathercraft, Dairy, Consumer Decision Making, Livestock, Horse, and Livestock Skillathon judging.Over 80 4-H members attended the workshops.
New parents and leaders attende the "Welcome to NM 4-H" workshop with their kids. They were able to get one-on-one attention to learn the details of the 4-H year in Quay County. This workshop provided a more indepth look at the overall 4-H program. 11 new leaders attended.
Several volunteers have conducted project meetings which resulted in over 30 indoor project articles exhibited at the Quay County Fair and over 25 articles exhibited at the New Mexico State fair. Many of the 4-Hers received 1st place awards at the State Fair.

This Agent has seen an increase of 100% of new leaders who have successfully completed the Volunteer Leader Screening, and 100% of leaders who re-enrolled. Quay County now has over 50 volunteer leaders enrolled and with the arrival of new families, the agent expects this number to be at 60. A volunteer leader who has served the county for 27 years was also honored with a Salute to Excellence Award this year. Also, 6 former leaders have been honored as members fo the 4-H Hall of Fame within this year. This agent believes recognotion of volunteers is a great tool to motivate new leaders, and to thank leaders who are dedicated in their service.

This agent conducted the annual Leader Meeting to address concerns and to plan the 4-H year. 6 leaders attended this event and their knowledge of policies was increased by 98%. Also, this agent has visited 8 clubs to present information to leaders and parents regarding policy changes and updates of events. Based on last year's creation of the leader's handbook, 95% of leaders have reported more convenience to having forms and documents on hand to address parent questions and to begin form processing in a more timely manner.

Three communities in Quay County are seeing a rapid decline in population, thus affecting the membership in their local 4-H clubs. This agent has worked with leaders of these clubs throughout the year to revitalize and offer more for the younger 4-Hers in these clubs. However, the agent has not abandoned other clubs, but the leadership in those clubs has remained strong enough to focus on other clubs. A Leaders Meeting was held to discuss the 4-H year,and to plan for the year. Also, concerns and comments were brought forward in order to further understand what the needs of the county are. A Quay County Leader's Handbook was developed to give leaders information and materials regarding club programming, and to assist the leaders with understanding the policies of the Quay County 4-H Program. 100% of the leaders received a handbook, and as one leader quoted, "I do know how I've led for this long without this reference by my side. Thank you very much!"
This agent has also worked hard to pormote the Leader Screening Process to adults wishing to become volunteers and has achieved more and more success since its inception. To date 90% of volunteers have participated in the process.

Presented two workshops at the 2006 New Mexico 4-H Leaders Forum. Animal ID Act was attended by 21 volunteer leaders. The presentation examined how the Animal ID Act would affect 4-H members and their families that exhibited livestock. Evaluations show that 15 greatly improved their knowledge, 17 responded that the information was very useful and 16 found the presentation of excellent quality.
Parliamentary Procedure was attended by 15 volunteer leaders. The presentation demonstrated using proper parliamentary procedure, how to present and amend main motions as well as demonstrate other techniques in parliamentary procedure to conduct business during 4-H Club meetings. Evaluations show that 7greatly improved their knowledge, 7 responded that the information was very useful, and 6 found the presentation of excellent quality.
Presented Parliamentary Procedure workshop to Dona Ana Branch faculty. Participants were instructed in meeting protocol and methods of reaching goals of the branch through faculty involvement. There were approximately 125 faculty members present.
Presented workshop to Sandoval County 4-H members and leaders on effective club meetings and parliamentary procedure. The presentation demonstrated using proper parliamentary procedure, how to present and amend main motions as well as demonstrate other techniques in parliamentary procedure to conduct business during 4-H Club meetings. Techniques were used during 4-H Council meeting following workshop. Verbal input from parents and leader stated the information was very valuable and helpful. Several stated that they were going to take and use what was presented to other organizations. There were approximately 100 in attendance.
Presented a workshop to 30 Roosevelt County parents and leaders titled “4-H Livestock Projects – It’s More Than what’s in the Bucket.” The presentation explained how the 4-H livestock program uses the six pillars of character to develop 4-H member’s life skills as well as increase their subject matter knowledge. Evaluations show that the workshop increased awareness of the livestock program to be more than just exhibiting their projects as fairs.
Conducted state-wide 4-H leader certification workshop in Rio Rancho, NM. Forty two 4-H leaders were trained in various shooting sports disciplines to become 4-H certified instructors. These leaders received safety, marksmanship training, risk management and coaching youth in a 15 hour course. Evaluations are done through leader’s completion of course and the ability to teach want was taught to them. This is demonstrated by leaders cross training each other in the various shooting disciplines that were taught.
