Sandoval County youth will enhance their personal growth, through the development of leadership, citizenship and life skills, and experience and satisfaction of making a difference in their own lives, their families, their schools, and their communities.

STATE RECORD BOOK TRAINING
Ten 4-H youth attended a state record book workshop. Youth received information on different methods of record keeping, the components of a state record book and how to set goals. 95% of youth reported an increase in knowledge related to record books. Youth reported an increase in mastery skills such as planning and organizing, self motivation and goal setting skills. Three senior members submitted state record books and were awarded trips to the National 4-H Congress.

SHOWMANSHIP WORKSHOP
Fifteen 4-H members and leaders attended a countywide showmanship workshop. The youth received hands on training related to grooming, showmanship techniques and appropriate attire. Youth increased knowledge, independence and belonging related to self-esteem, self discipline and self motivation as evidenced by attitude and behavior changes observed by adult volunteer leaders.

COMPETITIVE EVENTS
County competitive events and contest trainings were conducted to expand life skills and knowledge. 70% of novice and junior youth advanced to District level competition and 55% of senior youth advanced to state level competition. Contest areas included consumer decision, livestock judging, horse judging, wildlife ID, horticulture and public speaking. 85% of youth participating in competitive events increased mastery and independence related to teamwork, character and critical thinking as evidenced by team camaraderie, positive sportsmanship and completion of project related activities.

Youth work with adult partners to solicit donations and sponsorships for 4-H programs, scholarships and county fair needs as well conducting fundraisers. Sandoval County 4-H conducted a variety of fundraisers to send youth to camps, schools, provide for county wide trainings and maintain funds for general operations. Fundraisers included: Youth rodeo, gymkhanas, youth horseshow, raffles and concessions at many events. Members gained knowledge and life skills related to mastery, belonging, generosity and independence throughout the 2007-2008 program year.

Examples of County Community Service Projects include: Highway trash clean up, weed eradication, cleanup and repairs at fairgrounds, assist elderly with yard work, clothes donations, food drives and many other creative community contributions. Youth increase knowledge and skills relate to generosity and service learning, contributions to group efforts and responsible citizenship as evidenced by willingness to serve, appreciation of service opportunities and youth assuming leadership roles related to service. Results were reported by club leaders and in member record books.
