Leadership Workshop
10 4-H youth attended a multi-county leadership workshop held in Portales. Youth participated in hands on workshops and activities designed to increase life skills related to leadership, teamwork and cooperation. State 4-H officers served as group leaders and facilitators completing leadership training and field experience.

Judging Clinic
20 4-H members attended a Judging Clinic held in Roswell. Youth and agents received hands on training in various facets of judging, including livestock, horse, dairy, floriculture, crops, and wildlife. The training increased participants’ knowledge about each contest and oral reasons. The training also increased mastery skills, such as critical thinking, decision making, and communication.

State Lamb School
10 4-H members attended State Lamb School. Youth received hands on training related to selection, feeding, grooming, and showmanship techniques. 100% of youth reported an increase in showmanship techniques, show preparation, and clipping and grooming. 90% of youth reported an increase in mastery skills such as goal setting, planning, and self-discipline. One parent stated: “This was the best $160 I have ever spent! We have definitely learned more in the last 3 days than we ever thought possible. We are coming back next year and we are bringing other members with us.” One member wrote: “Thank you so much for your help at lamb school. I learned a lot and it helped me make the sale at county fair.”

County Showmanship Clinic
8 4-H members attended a countywide Showmanship and Selection workshop. Youth received hands on training related to animal selection, grooming, showmanship techniques, and appropriate attire. The workshop covered market swine, market lamb, market goat, and market steer projects. Based on observation, 90% of youth reported an increase in knowledge related to selection, showmanship techniques, and dressing for the show. 85% of youth reported an increase in mastery skills such as planning and organizing, and self-motivation.
