Impact Reports
4-H Hunter Education Program: This Agent was certified by NM Game & Fish to teach Hunter Education and required all 4-H youth to have completed the course before they could participate in NW District or State 4-H Shooting Sports competition. He was the lead agent to provide the class to 20 youth and adults with 6 being 4-H Members. Eighteen of the twenty qualified and met the standards of the New Mexico Hunter Education program.
Accelerated Hunter Education Program: Assisted County wide 4-H Riflery Leader to conduct an accelerated Hunter Education one-day Workshop. The program is designed for youth 12 and older who must complete the workbook before attending. The workshop had an intense materials review, practical handling and gun safety exercise and finally practical handling and written tests. Surprisingly, the passing rate for the class was 100%. Tewnty two youth qualified for the New Mexico Hunter Education requirement in order to apply for hunting licenses.
Kids 'n Kows n' More Program: This Agent assisted co-worker, 4-H Agent Sachse, with the Kids n’ Kows educational program for APS youth. Responsibility was to facilitate the movement between five educational stations. This program objective was to expose the urban youth to the world of agriculture with five stations. Those stations were: Milk Parlor, 4-H Youth Leadership Activity, Sheep shearing, Horse Demonstration, and NM Beef Council. Each station had 18 minutes to tell about what each station represented. The timing was critical to educate, rotate and educate again. There were five and two minute warnings over the PA system, and the call to rotate groups. When the groups were late, scheduling changes had to be made. This two-day program exposed 565 youth to agriculture. The teachers were very complimentary about what they learned. The youth were given a carton of milk when the program ended. The impact of this program was to educate urban youth about agriculture.
4-H Shooting Sports Orientation & Basic Archery Workshops: This agent prepared materials stressing different 4-H Shooting Sports disciplines, project and contest guidelines for the shooting sports program. Due to incumbent weather, only one youth attended, so he mailed the materials to those who requested the materials. Similarly, he arranged for a basic archery workshop with three instructors and was set up outside for the event. Once again bad weather prevailed, the equipment was returned to storage and one member was able to arrive after the instructors had left. He worked with this youth on the archery requirements, checked her equipment and sent her home with handout materials. Two youth learned about firearms and archery safety and the Bernalillo County 4-H Shooting Sports programs. Both developed skills and competed at the County Shooting Sports competition.
4-H Achievement Night: The Bernalillo County 4-H Staff and County 4-H Council hosted the annual 4-H Achievement night for the past year’s accomplishments. This Agent’s part was to recognize the 4-H Shooting Sports and 4-H Rodeo ticket sales, and sponsors sales achievers with cash incentives. The audience was ninety-five adults and youth. Twenty youth were recognized for their accomplishments in the 4-H Shooting Sports prject area. Two youth were awarded a $50 and a $100 cash award for high individual 4-H Rodeo ticket sales and high individual Rodeo Sponsor sales respectively. High sales 4-H Club Awards were $50 & $100 for the same categories. This was only one of three agent's contributions. There were about 400 recognized accomplishments for the total program for the past year.
