2010 Swine Sheep & Goat Selection Workshop
Agent held three selection workshops in which power-point presentations were presentated for each species for 4-h members in three different clubs that were interested in purchasing livestock for this year’s show season. Agent’s presentation covered appropriate facilities, what to look for in the animal, proper feeding and nutrition, grooming, vaccination, and worming for each species. The youth who attended stated that they “learned something.” The experience of the youth ranged from first year livestock shower’s to very experienced.

Twelve San Miguel County 4-H members participated in the home visits the 4-H Agent conducted. One hundred percent of the youth gained knowledge related to what their animal weighs, how they need to adjust the feed so that the animal is the desired weight at show time, and in some cases what that desired weight for show is. Youth gained life skills related to mastery, goal setting, planning and organizing, problem solving, and keeping records

4-H council
The agent assists the officer team with the agenda for the County Council meetings, along with help in preparing the minutes for the meeting. The agent assists the San Miguel County 4-H Council treasurer in writing the financial report and offers guidance to officers during the meeting. The agent also helps the council plan an yearly calendar of events for the upcoming year.

The agent compiles the monthly newsletter, which reaches 103 families in San Miguel County. The agent includes dates of shows, deadlines for registrations for retreats, and competitions, results for prior events, upcoming sales, events, and birthdays.
