Impact Report | Ag Awareness: Agriculture awareness is a very import part of the agents program. The agent attends different schools to discuss agriculture to the students. One program that the agent attended was a bilingual program at Hillrise elementary where there were 150 students. The agent conducted presentations in both Spanish and English. This is a great way to let youth know how important agriculture is and how prevalent it is in the area that they live in. The agent has done presentations at 3 of the local elementary schools where he reached out to approximatley 350 students. Kids & Kows & More is a program that the agent does and has a great success with. Doņa Ana County has hosted its 8th Kids & Kows & More this past year. It was held on April 1, and 2nd at the Farm and Ranch Museum in Las Cruces. There were 400 participants who attended throughout the two days. The event was made available for 4th grade students from the surrounding Las Cruces schools. The agent worked on grants to help increase funding to provide transportation for the participants since budgets were very tight for the school. The teachers did mention that it was one of the best agricultural programs that they had been invited to. The presentations consist of Cotton, Dairy, Curds and Whey, Pecans, Chile, Beef and Food Safety. |
