Integrated Pest Management Systems (Luna County)
This county-level plan is managed by Jack Blandford. Print this page to create a Plan of Work signature page.
Plan Goal
To inform and educate the people of Luna County on IPM. They will be given the correct tools and training to reduce the number of pests in Luna County.
Situation Statement
Luna County is very much a part of production agriculture. We see many pests around local farms and ranches in Luna County. My plan is to address the problems as they come about. By having people trained in scouting and reporting I can have a better idea of problems in the county. If I have people looking for pests we are more likely to catch a pest before large losses are caused. I encourage producers to ask questions in regards to pests and help to reduce them.
Target Audience and Actions
Target audience would be the Agriculture producers and people that have lawns and gardens. These groups will be reached through workshops hands on training and written information. I will work with local garden clubs and other organizations to convey knowledge. Providing information in different formats or forms will help the general public understand and use the information.
Short-Term Objectives
A large part of IPM is becoming aware of pests or problems that we face in our county. Knowledge will be increased by by educating as many people as possible. As the agent I have to be able to motivate people to get out and scout their fields and lawns. Skills will also improve as more people become trained and feel more at ease with the material.
Medium-Term Objectives
With knowledge people will learn new practices and management techiques to control problems throughout the county. Decision-making is key when deciding when to control a pest or when not to. People will also be aware of the regulations and policies that are related to chemicals and other practices of controlling pests.
Long-Term Objectives
By having people educated the environment will be a better place because chemicals will not be over used or under used. Economic loss will be less because management practices will be carried out. As the county becomes more educated losses will decline and more detailed practices will be put into place. With the county working together as a team we can manage pests and reduce problems related to crops, range, gardens and lawns.
Evaluation Plan
With the use of surveys I will be able to collect data to see what people are learning and what they are missing out on. From the information collected I can prepare different workshops or reading materials. Using group discussions and visiting with producers I will be able to gather information and evulate the progress of the trainings and management practices.
