Plan Goal
Increase, enhance, and sustain Socorro County urban and rural lifestyles by teaching proper landscape, plant selection, management, and efficient water use.
Situation Statement
New residents, beginning gardeners, and natives confront challenges due to unique soils, climate, and limited water supplies. Successful development and maintenance of landscapes and gardens require understanding of these unique challenges and appropriate techniques for adapting to them. Proper plant selection and management help to provide a sustainable water supply. Providing information to clientele using new science and technology will help them change their landscape and gardens to be more sustainable and condusive to the enviromental conditions.
Target Audience and Actions
Horticultural information will be provided to those who:
Inquire at the CES office by walking in, phone, e-mail, or mail.
CES will provide a series of educational workshops open to all.
Short-Term Objectives
1. Learn proper plant selection to obtain their personal gardening goals and use resources wisely.
2. Learn water saving irrigation techniques.
3. Learn the basic steps to take to prepare and area for a new garden or landscape.
Medium-Term Objectives
1. Be able to plan an manage a sustainable landscape that is also aesthetically pleasing.
2. Change the current landscape to a more sustainable, water wise landscape.
3. Plan and grow a home vegetable garden
Long-Term Objectives
Observations over time will indicate that clientele will be saving resources and money because of the wise water use. They will also save money by growing some of their own produce. Also landscapes will be more eye appealing to onlookers.
Evaluation Plan
Formal written evaluations such as pre and post tests will be used at planned programs.
Verbal communication will be used as and informal evaluation tool.
