Plan Goal

Increase, enhance, and sustain New Mexico urban and rural lifestyles by teaching proper landscape plant selection, management, and efficient water use.

Situation Statement

Lea County is dealing with a large increase in population. With a vast degree of businesses entering our county. With this increase the county is seeing a different clientale arriving each day. Most are not aware of the complexites and certain constraints of gardening and landscaping in Lea County. Along with, many of our current residents have little to know knowledge of basic horticulture information. Without an increase in knowledge, residents and businesses alike will continue to choose inappropriate plants for this region.

Target Audience and Actions

Audiences sought after will be 1) private homeowner/gardener; 2) commercial landscape care operation; and 3) the nursery businesses. Private homeowners, commercial owners, and nursery's will be reached through Master Gardener support programs, through a thirteen week program which will offered in the spring.

Short-Term Objectives

Train and retrain 35 master gardeners and provide classes and demonstrations to increase awareness and adopt new practices in horticulture.

Medium-Term Objectives

That homeowners, commercial businesses, and city planners make decisions to assist the environment in which they live.

Long-Term Objectives

Keep nursery's, commercial businesses and extension service working to beautify our region while maintaining sustainable plants for landscaping for our surrounding environment.

Evaluation Plan

Evaluating will occur in recording number of master gardener volunteers retrained, attendees of the thirteen week program, demonstration, and total hours volunteers donated.
