Plan Goal

Prepare 4-H youth in Otero County to be productive and capable adults, through various training and outreach programs.

Situation Statement

There are approximately 14,803 youth between the ages of 5 and 19 in Otero County or about 23 percent of the population according to the NM Kids Count Data Book 2005. 4-H educational programs allow youth to develop, life skills, citizenship and leadership which will allow them to develop responsibility, self-confidence, self esteem and various other valuable life skills necessary to be productive and capable adults.

Target Audience and Actions

The youth (ages 5 to 19) of Otero County are targeted to learn life skills, leadership skills and citizenship skills through a variety of subject matter provided by the 4-H program. This can be done through work projects, workshops, camps, competitions, record books, officer trainings, fairs, school enrichment and any other avenue that would benefit youth development.
