Plan Goal

Youth will be educated in hands-on learning experiences that promote life skills and expand there knowledge to develop positive lifelong productive citizens.

Situation Statement

Sierra County ranks high in negative indicators for children under 18. Youth problems such as crime, poverty, teen birth rate, single parent families’ and ranking the highest in the state for suicide and homicide rates in 2003 youth in Sierra County need positive alternatives for productive activities. In order to prepare all our youth to become knowledgeable, productive citizens, they must possess basic life skills. Families of young children need the skills to work with their children to develop their learning potential. 4-H is challenged to help more youth gain knowledge and skills in consumerism, nutrition, personal development, animal science, plant science, natural science, engineering, and creative arts. Through 4-H youth and adults throughout the County will be able to become involved in community groups, school programs, or special activities.

Target Audience and Actions

Youth ages 5 to 19 are targeted to learn life, leadership and citizenship skills through: Project Work, Special Interest Groups, School Enrichment, Competitive Events, Fairs, Clinics, Workshops, Record Books, Camps, Community Service, Public Speaking, Elected/Appointed Offices, etc.

Short-Term Objectives

Sierra County Youth will be provided hands-on curriculum and learning experiences that will enrich there lives.

Youth will be provided accessibility to 4-H Cloverbud programs, Special Interest, and School Enrichment programs.

Medium-Term Objectives

Both Youth and Adults will gain subject matter knowledge and skills to improve their personal lives.

School Enrichment and Special Interest programs will be presented to schools and groups. Encourage Cloverbud enrollments among 5 to 8 year old youth and their families.

Long-Term Objectives

Young People of the County will gain knowledge and develop skills through involvement of 4-H projects and activities.

Learners will be able to make knowledgeable decisions about their personal lives, establish positive life goals, and relate effectively with others.

Evaluation Plan

Membership enrollments will be evaluated for participation in projects and activities as well as through pre and post examinations on knowledge gained when deemed appropriate. Observations of skills learned and accomplishments will also be determined.
