Plan Goal

Brush and Weed control is the number one need for producers who have had many years of drought stricken country With the low rain fall and contious use all private land is in need of improved pasture conditions . Many producers have infestions of cholla

Situation Statement

Guadalupe county brush and weed problems can be categorized in three catagorys they are Low medium and high infestations Depending on the location and the type of brush or weed species. The infestation is an economic threshold and continues to get worse and is effecting the overall returns of our producers . Aproximately 20 percent of the county has some type of weed or brush problem that is effecting all producers in the county . As well as the brush infestation in rangeland there is also the infestation on swamp land in and around SantRosa . This to is causing economic concern especially with Russian Olive trees More chemical mechanical and biological control is needed to change and to be able to sustain our lands for future generations.

Target Audience and Actions

Our Guadalupe county producers have about 75% private land with about 20% state land and about 5% BLM land Most all of the demonstrtions will be contained on private land. They will be used to show economic relief for brush and weed recovery

Short-Term Objectives

Annual brush and weed demonstrations will occur on different private ranches with with knowledge of producers undertanding how and why brush and weed control is important

Medium-Term Objectives

In Guadalupe county we will in crease the understanding of brush and weed control and have local producers critque the how why and cost effectiveness of dontrol on 4 ranches in the county

Long-Term Objectives

To improve the overall pastures by removing and unwanted brush species and helping local producers to generate greater income on their ranches

Evaluation Plan

All the demonstration projects will be evaluated annnually by plant kill and measurements of farage improvements will bw looked at Local ranchers will be given field infomation and dicussion about brush control will be shown along with economic cost and recovery totals. Other improved species will also be included as to how one can maintain more livestock.
