Plan Goal

Increase the percentage of minorities utilizing the Luna County Extension office to improve their social and economic wellbeing.

Situation Statement

The majority (over 80%) of the individuals seeking help from the Luna County Extension office are non-minorities while the population of the county is approaching 70% minorities. Increasing the participation of minorities in Extension programs to be more in line with the county population would increase the effectiveness of our office. Some of the problems are awareness of our programs, language barriers, imagined or real social barriers and economic barriers. Possible solutions include: increasing minority participation by hosting "ethnic open houses", using PSAs to advertize Extension programs during ethnic programs such as "la hora epanol" and setting up displays at local health fairs and similar events
