Situation Statement
OVER THE PAST FIVE YEARS THE DROUGHT HAS TAKEN IT'S TOLL ON THE LIVESTOCK INDUSTRY IN MORA COUNTY. WE HAVE LOST MORE THAN HALF OUR LIVESTOCK WHICH IS A PRIMARY CONTRIBUTER TO THE ECONOMY IN THIS SMALL COUNTY. WITH THE RECIENT HEAVY RAIN FALL THIS SUMMER, PRODUCERS WILL START RESTOCKING THEIR RANCHES. THIS OUR OPERTUNITY TO INCREASE BEEF QUALITY ASSURANCE TRAINING AND GIVING INFORMATION RELATING TO BEEF SELECTION. CULTURAL PRACTICES NEED INNOVATIVE INCORPORATION OF QUALITY ASSURANCE, ANIMAL ID AND PROFITABILITY.
Target Audience and Actions
THE TARGET AUDIENCE IS MADE UP OF RANCHERS,FARMERS IN MORA COUNTY. INFORMATION WILL BE DISTRIBUTED THROUGH BEEF QUALITY ASURANCE PROGRAMS,WORKSHOPS,INDIVIDUAL COMMUNICATION WITH PRODUCERS AND SPECIALISTS PROGRAMS FROM NMSU.
Short-Term Objectives
AFTER A BEEF QUALITY TRAINING, 50%OF THE PRODUCERS TRAINED WILL ADOPT SOME OF THE QUALITY ASURANCE PRACTICES.
Medium-Term Objectives
PRODUCERS WILL ADOPT QUALITY ASURANCE PRACTICES {FOLLOWING THE FIRST SIX MONTHS OF TRAINING}
Long-Term Objectives
PRODUCERS WILL IMPROVE, MANAGE AND STRENGTHEN THEIR CATTLE OPERATION OVER THE NEXT FOUR YEARS THROUGH BEEF QUALITY ASURANCE TRAINING.
