Provide outreach opportunities to extension personnel and Southwest beef producers to improve practical skills and knowledge of methods to improve reproductive performance and efficiency in beef cattle.

1. Improve the applied, practical skills and continued learning of 3% of statewide beef producers in applied reproductive management through hands-on instructional workshops to a level of comfort that learned skills can be implemented on Southwest beef cattle operations.

2. Improve in-herd data collection and management skills of beef producers participating in program area to assist in critical management decisions and measure cost-effectiveness of techniques and procedures implemented as a result of outreach efforts in the program area.
a. Accomplished during the 2006-07 reporting period: Specialist has focused and incorporated economics of implementing management strategies in outreach materials and programming efforts.

Accomplished during 2006-07 reporting period: Specialist has established formal programming with 36% of county agricultural and/or 4-H agents in this program area.

By improving the short and medium objectives livestock producers can improve their income by 20% to 25%. By improving their cattle operation some producers can become self employed.
By improving the knowledge of livestock production and motivating the Native American livestock producers to imporve their herds, this will help to improve their income and motivate the younger generation to continue the operation.
By working with livestock producers on the Ten Southern Indian Pueblos we can help them improve better bull selection, better heifer relpacement and nutrition. I am currently conducting Beef Quality Assurance workshops on the Southern Pueblos to educate livestock producers of the proper vaccinations and increase price/lbs on weaned calves sold.
