Sandoval County youth will enhance their personal growth, through the development of leadership, citizenship and life skills, and experience and satisfaction of making a difference in their own lives, their families, their schools, and their communities.

BEE KEEPING
4-H Agent in collaboration with a local producer, presented basic bee keeping skills, history, and the importance of bees in food production. 11 students tasted the honey and learned the difference in flavor according to location and season. Youth gained knowledge in healthy choices, and wise use of resources.

DAIRY GOAT FARM TOUR
4-H Agent collaborated with local dairy goat producer where 7 youth gained knowledge as it relates to the dairy goat project. Youth learned husbandry, nutrition, milking, food handling and safety, and entrepreneurship opportunities. Youth gained life skills such as: responsibility, caring, communication, healthy choices and importance of community.

RODEO 1ST AID TRAINING
29 youth enrolled in the rodeo and/or horse project attended a Rodeo First Aid Workshop in San Ysidro. Participants gained knowledge in animal and human safety, proper usage of equipment/tack, protective gear, and basic first aid. Youth participating in the training increased knowledge and skills related to critical thinking, positive sportsmanship, self-motivation and goal setting.

4-H PROGRAM PROMOTION
The Sandoval County 4-H program is committed to providing educational curriculum and related learning experiences for youth and adults. The 4-H Agent and 4-H Home Economist worked diligently to promote 4-H and other services provided by NMSU Cooperative Extension Services through participation in a number of community venues.

NM STATE 4-H LIVESTOCK SCHOOL

State Goat School was attended by approximately 53 youth and 14 adults from New Mexico and Arizona. County 4-H Agent served as assistant instructor. Youth received hands-on training related to husbandry, disease prevention, showmanship and ethics. Youth increased mastery and independence related to critical thinking, goal setting and self esteem. Participant from Arizona wrote, “It means a lot to us that you volunteered your time to help us at the camp. Thank you for helping us all in the showmanship groups, and just being around to help everyone.”
