Youth Development
Impact Reports
District Contests help novice and junior age youth gain decision making skills and build friendships. Harding county hosted the Northeast Distric Contest in 2007 for the first time ever. Agent coordinated classes, judges, rooms, and entertainment for the contest. Over 50 youth from the surrounding counties came to compete over the 2 day perod. Participants increased their subject matter knowledge in events, learned from different workshops, and had a good time.
National Livestock Skill-A-Thon Contest
Harding County earned the right to compete at the national contest by getting second place at the State Contest. This is one of the many ways that the 4-H program challenges young people to do their best and stay competitive. The objective was to go and place in the top five at the contest. The 4-H members were trained from 8-12 on Fridays for 6 weeks. They met with the agent at the school and learned different livestock production skills. The team members learned a lifetime of information that will help them later on in their respective careers and ended up earning 7th out of 19 teams.
