To assess the effects of new and conventional management practices on pecan orchard yields and quality. To promote those orchard management practices demonstrated to enhance pecan orchard profitability.

Impact Reports
Pecan nut case bear scouting and reporting took place. Producers were advised of approperate actions via e-mail, news paper articles, and news letters. The impact of PNC was miminal with less then a 3% loss to PNC compared with a 12 to 23% loss when control measuers are not implemented. This incerase the gross revenu to the county producers by about 3 milllion dollars.
A Pecan field day was conducted with 30 producers who learned about irrigation, fertlizer and pest control on pecans.

1st Annual Pecan workshop for Otero county Pecan growers was conducted on the 20th of April, 2007. South of Alamogordo. There were about 50 plus growers in attendance. Specialist in pests, weed, pecan management, water irrigation, tree pruning, and fertilizer were there to speak to the growers in this outdoor workshop. NMDA, Pecan Specialist, and Dona Ana County Agriculture Agent was there to give the talk and answer Growers concern in certain issues and questions about basic Pecan management. Growers were satisfied with the program and asked if there will be a similar program like this for next year.
