Identification and Management of New Mexico's Saline and Sodium Affected Soils
Impact Reports
Conducted workshop with NRCS, Otero SWCD, USDA Agronomist in relation to soil moisture monitoring workshop with Pecan, Pistachio growers. About 15 growers attended the workshop conducted in the Extension Service Office in Alamogordo. Growers were given instruments in how to use and put the device in their orchard. Monitoring of moisture will be carried out for the next spring, 2008. Soil and water sampling were done by all the Growers participating in this project. Soil and water samples were sent in to S.W.A.T. early this year and and Growers will send samples this coming Spring, 2008 to compare the properties of the soil and water. This will result in a better direction and management of the Orchard by Growers, understanding and knowledge of their land, making informed decision for their operation.
