Impact Reports
Held a baking workshop with 7 4-Hers and 1 guest attending, two of the older 4-Hers gained leadership skills by being teamed up with 2 younger 4-Hers to work on their assigned cookie recipe. Each group made 2 batches of cookies using the recipes in the baking project. The cookies they made were used at the Chamber After Hours Social Hosted by the Extension Office earning the 4-Hers community service as well. Skills learned include: recipe reading, measuring, direction following, teamwork, and how to fix and mess up.
Held 4 sewing workshops for 1st and 2nd year sewers. Three sewers participated. All were 1st year sewers. The 4-Hers learned the parts, how to thread and how to operate their sewing machines, learned about selecting fabric, learned about the tools they needed and practiced sewing on paper to learn control of the machine. They all completed a scrunchie, totebags and pin cushion and two finished a skirt.
Our 2nd 4-H Round up was held with 17 4-Hers and club leaders bringing projects to demonstrate and visit with potential members. Fourteen youth and their parents participated and of these 8 youth joined 4-H. Some of the activities they took part in during the round up were cookie baking, corn husk doll making, leathercraft, dog obedience, photography. There was also a display and slide show on the shooting sports program.
Practices held for Novices and Juniors going to district in Ft Sumner included 4 Horticulture, 6 Home Ec Bowl, 4 Home Ec Skill-a-thon and 3 Consumer. There were not any participants in the consumer practices, the other practices averaged 4 youth per practice. These 4-Hers competed in District Contest with the Home Ec Bowl team placing 2nd, the Skill-a-thon teams placing 1st and 5th and the Horticulture teams placing 1st and 5th. We had the high point in junior horticulture and junior skill-a-thon individuals and several other individual placings. 4-hers learn a variety of life skills studying for these contest and increase their knowledge.
Six of the 7 Seniors competing in Horticulture attended 3 practices to prepare them for the state competition. Team 1 placed 2nd at the state competition, but the first place team was unable to go on the National trip, so this team is eligible for the trip. This is the same team that could not go on their national trip last year. Worked with a team demonstration that placed 1st in Home Economics presentations and will be representing us at Nationals in January. 4-Hers learned a to identify a variety of plants and trees and place classes of plants and produce.
