National Western 4-H Roundup
Four youth and the 4-H agent participated in the Roundup and competed in the livestock contest in Denver, Colorado. Youth involved were exposed to a national contest and were successful in increasing mastery of skills in livestock judging. Youth and 4-H agent were able to interact with individuals from other states and the staff of Colorado State University while attending 4-H Roundup.

Spring Livestock Workshops
Youth learned the proper entry procedures for the fairs in the fall. During this time nominations were completed for entry into the New Mexico State Fair. These workshops included youth, staff, volunteer leaders, county FFA teachers and New Mexico State Fair staff. Forty youth were in attendance for these workshops and learned early care of their animals and worked with their animals in addition to learning the proper entry procedures for fall exhibition.

Kids, Kows, and More
The 4-H agent helped with the planning, coordination, and setup of the two day event at the Curry County fairgrounds. This event is done on a yearly basis and 4th graders from schools in Curry and Roosevelt counties in New Mexico and Parmer County in Texas are in attendance. School children, teachers, and parents that attend this event attend eight workshops throughout the day that teach them hands on life skills about the agricultural industry. Through evaluation there was knowledge gained in every subject area taught through the event. Workshop topics included: Farming and Ranching, Curds and Whey, Fruits and Vegetables, Wheat and Corn production, Cotton Production, Dairy production, Peanut production, and Food Safety. Through two days of the event 883 participants learned about all of the above topics through the coordination and help of many volunteers from many organizations.

Office staff and volunteer leaders setup courses the day of the show, assisted judges in the ring, and assisted with announcing, tabulation, timing, working gates and assisting exhibitors. Five youth from the Curry County 4-H program competed in the event.

Thirty one volunteers and youth spent a week in Las Cruces at the State 4-H Conference. Youth were involved in competition and attended workshops developing leadership, teamwork, and hands on skills. Youth competed in events such as wool judging, fashion revue, land judging, horticulture, horse judging, livestock judging, meats judging, parliamentary procedure, crops judging and public speaking contests. Throughout the week of competition curry county youth received numerous individual and team awards earning four national trips. Youth reflected that they enjoyed the conference and that many of them made new friends and learned new activities they could use in Curry County programming.
