Impact Report | Multimedia Production: Virtual Labs Grant Title: Recruitment and Retention of a Diverse Population of Food Safety Students Using Market Research for Enhanced Programs and Growing and Improving the Great Plains Institute of Food Safety In partnership with North Dakota and South Dakota Universities, project members intend to expand student numbers and involvement in food safety by increasing numbers of graduates in baccalaureate degrees in the food and agricultural sciences. To do that, the main project objectives are to: -Attract and attain new population demographics for our programs -Develop high quality, multimedia-enhanced curriculum tools encouraging retention in the food safety programs -Train instructors to better utilize online tools and integrated curriculum -Engage in evaluation strategies measuring participants’ change in knowledge, observed behavior, and program usability This project is funded by USDA’s Higher Education Challenge grant program. Researchers have developed four virtual lab modules on corn mold, disposable lab equipment, gram staining and microscope familiarity, and a website to help distribute material (http://virtuallab.nmsu.edu/). Four, web-based virtual lab modules on Corn Mold, Disposable Lab Equipment, Gram Staining and Microscope familiarity) and a website (http://virtuallab.nmsu.edu/) to promote and distribute material, have been created. The video unit us arranging professional narration and cutting audio clips that will be used in four animated Web programs. |
