Impact Report 1.a. Over 230 4-H and FFA youth participated in statewide educational events coordinated by the Specialist to improve their knowledge of horse management. b. Over 150 4-H members prepared for and competed in local, county, district, and state 4-H horse shows that increased their knowledge and skills related to horse training and exhibition. 2.a. In Socorro county, 85 youth participated in county horse programs, and the agent reported that over 80% of them had demonstrated noticeable improvement in horsemanship skills. b. In De Baca county, 50% of youth attending a horse safety workshop reported an increase in knowledge concerning proper horse care. 3.a. Participants in the 2011 NM Equine Industry Study Tour (12 NMSU students & 5 county extension agents) inspected several equine operations across the state. The group reported that they acquired several new ideas that they could apply to their horse management plans for their own operations.
