Impact Report | After participating in a 6-month lecture series through the Master Gardener program, negative attitudes towards turfgrass' consumptive water use dropped from over 90% to less than 60% after participants acquired knowledge about actual turfgrass water use, efficient irrigation, and the role and importance importance of turf areas in urban environments. A total of 33% of all participants in the statewide program requested additional training in the area of turfgrass irrigation. Additional comments given anonymously by surveyed participants included: "Surprisingly an interesting presentation." "Excellent training. Very important to everyone who lives in NM. This training provides MG with a more balanced approach to turf use." "Really really enjoyed presentation. Best turf presentation I have heard." "Again, awesome presentation" "Valuable to have this topic included in basic MG training." "I don't maintain a lawn but I appreciate the info to help me as a MG." "Thank you so much for sharing your turfgrass enthusiasm with us." "Very helpful." "Excellent instructor - great humor." "Especially good for all the people moving here from wetter areas." "Informative presentation, good sense of humor." "This is an excellent class as it gives solid information and refutes the idea that grass is a very high water use crop." "I really enjoyed the lecture." |
