Impact Report 4-H HOME ECONOMIC PROJECT WORKSHOPS SEWING CLASS The 4-H Home Economist held a sewing class in San Ysidro for 11 participants. Participants learned basic sewing machine parts and sewing skills such as cutting, pining, ironing, and hemming. With the new skills learned participants made an apron. As a result of the class 7 aprons were displayed at County Fair, one of which went on to State Fair. CANNING CLASS The 4-H Home Economist held a canning class, for 15 participants, at the Canning Center. By making jam participants learned basic canning skills such as sanitation, how much head space to leave, and the importance of taking out air bubbles. As a result of the class 30 jars of jam were displayed at County Fair, 2 of which went on to State Fair. BAKING CLASS The 4-H Home Economist held a series of baking classes. 26 participants learned basic skills such as measuring, sifting, mixing and judging their baked goods. At the end of the series 100% of youth could identify cookies make with butter and cookies made with shortening. As a result of the class 20 baked goods were displayed at County Fair, 8 of which went on to State Fair. One parent stated, “Thanks for all you do, your awesome for giving the kids the opportunities that you do.”
