Impact Report Youth Development (Cibola County) Impact Reports |2011 Develop life skills in Cibola County youth through project participation, workshop participation and leadership roles in club activities. This year Cibola County has 10 clubs. 123 members, 98 4-H and 25 clover buds. 30 new members since last year with 17 clover buds, and 47 new 4-H participants. 40 of our kids were in their second and third year. 36 members in their four or more years. The Home Economist spent a considerable amount of time in supporting Cibola county 4-H youth, parents and leaders with a variety of projects. By working on these projects youth are developing life skills and gaining a greater knowledge of the project subject matter. Plus with the record book training an abundance of overall knowledge learned, presented by the evidence of 19 record books turned in and judged by the professional assistance from the agents in Sandoval County, Cibola County 4-H youth showcase and complete their projects at Cibola County Achievement Day, Ship rock Fair, Ramah Navajo Fair, and Bi-County Fair. 4-Her's are enrolled in projects listed with Home Economist/4-H Agent assisting in the Baking 1, Food Fun, Natures Treasures, 4-H Cakes, Dude up Denim, having Fun with Art, The way things grow, Our Animal Friends, Natures Treasures, Welcome to Clover bud, Shopping Smart, Stomp Blow Splash, Scrapbooking, Cross Stitch I, Cakes Ceramics, Sewing II, Photography, Quilting, Public Speaking. Over 78 members (from both counties) exhibited 4-H animal projects (200 large animals’ entries) - 58 entries qualify for the Junior Livestock sale that brought in over $86,000 dollars. The agent assisted many members while at the fair and assisted with indoor displays and performed many worth while jobs during the week. Members at the county fair exhibited 347 indoor 4-H projects – this is an increase of over 100 projects this year. State Events Youth Get-Away at Camp In low this year. One member and their parent had a great time and learned communication and team building skills. The also got a chance to get to know other members throughout the state. One member and one parent attended and participated in the Northwest/Northeast District 4-H Contest. These youth were able to compete in various contests over the two-day period. One member and one parent got a chance to participate in State 4-H Conference. Home Economist was able to attend Home Ec School. This was a great training for the agent, The Home Ec School gives youth and adults a chance to learn about basic sewing, scrapbooking, quilting, and canning just to name a few things – this school is great because sometimes in a county setting if they are the only ones interested they don’t get the full picture of the project. 8 youth and their parents attended the state shooting sports – it was a good experience for all. One leader and their Spouse went to the leader’s certification workshop for shooting sports in Farmington; they each came home certified in 2 different areas. This training has benefitted them as leaders. The experience in shooting sports has motivated the leader and club to apply for a grant to assist in all 4-H shooting sports event for Cibola County. In addition 8 4-H members from Cibola County 4-H attended Horse School as well as Livestock School, 4-H/Ag Agent along with members parents experienced a great learning opportunity, which enhanced these members to go on to compete at our local Rodeo’s.
