Impact Report | YOUTH LEADERSHIP/CITIZENSHIP DEVELOPMENT Sandoval County youth are afforded many opportunities to learn and develop life skills related to leadership and citizenship. 4-H Agent, 4-H Home Economist and Club leaders encourage youth participation within their clubs, county council and state leadership teams. These opportunities provide youth with a strong sense and understanding of responsibility, self-esteem, belonging and generosity. SANDOVAL COUNTY 4-H COUNCIL- This year’s team consisted of 7 officers from 4 different clubs. Several leaders worked with the team to understand their role as officers and to plan their calendar of events for the upcoming year. 4-H ANNUAL BANQUET- Seven 4-H youth served as keynote speakers, emcees, pledge leaders and presenters, increasing their public speaking skills and giving leadership to the overall program. Members received pins, medals and plaques in recognition of their achievements and increase in life skills related to mastery, belonging, generosity and independence throughout the program year. 86 members, leaders and guests attended the event. The growth and development of the 4-H youth is evident through their abilities to complete a record book, set and obtain goals and the leadership skills they exhibit as they host this event. PARLI PRO TRAINING- 4-H agent hosted a training for all 4-H Council Officers as well as for other 4-H Club Officers. 8 4-H members participated in this training. Youth increased knowledge related to preparing agendas, order, motions and leadership through basic life skills as evidenced by effective club meetings. Youth increased mastery skills such as planning and organizing, critical thinking, problem solving and communication. SENIOR LEADERSHIP RETREAT - 4 4-H senior age members participated in the State event. STATE 4-H CONFERENCE- 6 senior age members participated in the state event. YOUTH-GET-AWAY- 3 novice/junior age members participated in the state event. TOUR OF THE STATE CAPITAL – 31 4-H youth members rode the RailRunner to Santa Fe to tour the Governor’s Mansion, Santa Fe Capital, and met the Governor and State Engineer of NM during the legislature. Youth gained knowledge of local government, citizenship, and leadership skills. STARBUCK'S SPRING HORSE SHOW - An annual event organized and led by the Starbuck’s 4-H Club (Southern Sandoval County). Youth are able to compete and practice for district and state shows, etc. Youth gain knowledge and skills related to critical thinking, positive sportsmanship, self-motivation and goal setting. CUBA GYMKHANA- An annual event organized and led by the Cuba Coyotes 4-H Club (Northern Sandoval County). Youth are able to compete and practice for district and state shows, etc. Youth gain knowledge and skills related to critical thinking, positive sportsmanship, self-motivation and goal setting. STALLION BARRELRACING SERIES - An annual event organized and led by the Jemez Mountain Stalions 4-H Club (Central Sandoval County). Youth are able to compete and practice for rodeo events. Youth gain knowledge and skills related to critical thinking, positive sportsmanship, self-motivation and goal setting. |
