Impact Report | The agent collaborated with a local producer that was planting a new field of pecan trees. The producer was converting an alfalfa field into pecans and was looking for the best practices in which to grow his crop. The producer was concerned about water management for the pecans and stripes of alfalfa, so using a data logger and individual sensors agent and producer were able to closely monitor soil moisture to make better decisions on irrigation needs. The producer was utilizing flood irrigation for the alfalfa and pecan seedlings with a capability of watering seedlings through drip irrigation that was put in a pecan planting. Results have been positive for the producer, and have decreased the amount of water that would have been applied by two watering’s. |
