Impact Report A total of 378 youth were reached through school enrichment efforts by the 4-H Home Economist in 2009-2010 at San Idelfonso Pueblo, Cesar Chavez Elementary, Agua Fria Elementary, Salazar Elementary, South Mountain Elementary and Edgewood Elementary. Breakdown by curriculum area resulted in a total of 25 youth participating in money management and theatre curricula and 355 youth participating in the Just Be It! Healthy & Fit nutrition and fitness program. The 4-H Home Economist continued the collaborative partnership between Santa Fe County 4-H and Girl Scouts. A program titled, “Food is Fun”, was provided to 69 Girl Scouts. This hands-on program taught youth the importance of kitchen and food safety and basic nutrition concepts. At the conclusion of the program each child had made at least one snack and took home a recipe book and food safety coloring book to share with their families. Santa Fe County 4-H partnered with the University of Lincoln-Nebraska to provide “Gear Tech 21,” a robotics and GPS/GIS training for local teachers, Boys & Girls Club employees, Girl Scout leaders, 4-H Agents, and 4-H volunteers. A total of 29 adults participated in this two-day training. Pre and post surveys were administered and sent with the representative from the University of Lincoln-Nebraska. As a result of this training, two week-long summer camps comprising of 33 youth were offered in 2010. Additionally, three schools will be implementing a robotics “club” for the 2010-2011 school year. All evaluation surveys are mailed to the University of Lincoln Nebraska for processing.
