Impact Report | Welcome to 4-H workshop was held for new 4-Hers to help them learn about 4-H and build on their enthusiasm. We had 8 new 4-Hers attend and were assisted by 5 senior 4-Hers. The new 4-Hers were taught by the Senior members about the pledge, motto, slogan, community service and leadership. They participated in a leadership and a community service activity. They learned about judging and demonstrations from the Home Economist and each one judged a class of apples and gave a mini-demonstration. Each new 4-Hers was able to decorate a picture frame for their fair entry. The highlight of the day, for me, was seeing our three shyest senior boys, stand up before a group and talk about their assigned part. They were so scared and needed a lot of encouragement and notes. By the end of the day they were much more comfortable and acted like they were enjoying themselves as they pitched in to help with the other activities. After the opening activity of the Welcome to 4-H Workshop, the parents moved to another room for a new Parent Orientation. There were 11 parents/grandparents. The Home Economist discussed the role of the extension office, the yearly calendar, quay county policy, fundraising, record books, and insurance issues. Then switched with the 4-H agent who talked about livestock projects and answered questions. |
