Impact Report Traditional Blue Mush/Navajo Indian Tea wrapping The Navajo 4-H youth of local area expressed the need to prepare and learn more on Traditional cooking and Indian tea wrapping for their projects for the Northern Navajo Fair in October. The knowledge learned will be displayed at the Northern Navajo Fair in their Project. 4-H youth will learn skills in how to make both blue mush from blue corn and how to wrap Indian Navajo tea, along with kitchen safety and traditional stories that go along with blue mush and Indian tea. Agent conducted a class on Navajo traditional blue corn mush, each participant each had the opportunity to take part in measuring and stirring ingredients. While the blue corn mush was boiling, agent along with present 4-H leader’s taught the club how to wrap Navajo Indian tea. Each participant wrapped Indian tea that was picked on the roadside from a 4-H leader. Traditional stories were brought forth from several adults with what was taught to them by their elders. Agent held three classes with an average of sixth teen participants attend to learn about traditional stories while making Blue Mush and Navajo Indian Tea. Each participant had the opportunity to take what they learned and practice for upcoming Navajo fair. The results were their ribbons colors and the value of their culture and traditions as a Navajo 4-H youth member.
