Impact Report | The Home Economist served on a state committee assisting the State 4-H Home Economics specialist and other county Home Economists in the planning and implementing of the first annual Home Economics School. As a committee member, the Home Economist was the chair of the Sewing Track for the school and was responsible for obtaining materials, sewing machines, and sewing tools to be used to instruct Home Economics School participants on threading the machine, sewing safety, parts of the machine, and basic sewing skills. Once the participants learned basic sewing skills they were instructed by the Home Economist in the making of a pillowcase from the 4-H Quilting project. Since the event was a lock-in type event where participants slept in a high school gymnasium the pillowcases were the perfect additions to the slumber party. Twenty youth participated in the sewing track and completed the project. They were able to enter these projects in county and state fairs. |
