Impact Report Over six hundred residents of Eddy County attend the Carlsbad Health and Safety Fair. This past year the Home Economist advised the Extension Homemakers club in preparing and running a booth at the health fair. Again this year, the organization chose to focus their booth on the importance of calcium and vitamin D in the diet of adults and children. The Home Economist researched and prepared information to be handed out and also coordinated with Southwest Dairy Farmers to have milk donated to give to fair-goers. Youth who stopped by the booth were encouraged to participate in a coloring contest to win a small prize. Educating families is a key goal of the Homemaker organization and this was accomplished at the health fair. The Homemakers booth offered families and individuals new recipes high in calcium and vitamin d, daily requirements for dairy intake, and a few nutritional comparisons of dairy type drinks to other beverages. During the one day event the Homemakers gave out three hundred cartons of milk.
