Impact Report | Over 60% of calls and visitors to the Socorro Extension office are related to urban horticulture. Agent spends time consulting home owners on an individual basis based on individual problems. Common issues are lawn care and varieties, tree’s dying, insect id and control, weed id and control, and a variety of gardening questions. Nearly all are provided with answers by researching problems, utilizing diagnostics lab and working with specialist. A series of 6 educational horticultural seminars were conducted for clientele in Socorro County. Topics included: Intro to Gardening, Hoop House construction, vegetable production, Organic Gardening, Pecan production & management, and Greenhouse management. A total of 54 people were reached throughout the series. 100% of the participants stated that they gained information about horticulture that they previously did not know. Two participants were making plans to construct a hoop house of their own to extend their growing season. |
