Impact Report The McKinley County Weed Management Area was formed with the help of McKinley County Extension Agent, BLM, Local Soil and Water Conservation District, and Producers. Last year, we have gotten grants and have been able to purchase several back pack sprayers and non-restrictive chemicals - all of this is available for local farmers and ranchers to use. This year with training provided by the agent and soil and water board members, producers were able to check out the back pack sprayers and start spraying their fields. The one-on-one training seems to work the best for the producer. We have continued to get grants through the McKinley Soil and Water District where we have started removing the salt cedar that was treated in past years. As a management area we are still in the process of developing a list and mapping of brush and weed species that have been shown to be growing in the county. We have also purchase equipment to set up in areas to measure soil moisture – we have recently started placing these units with in the county to assist in drought monitoring.
