Impact Report A total of 231 youth were reached through school enrichment efforts by the 4-H Home Economist in 2008-2009 at San Idelfonso Pueblo, Nambe Pueblo, Cesar Chavez Elementary, and Mariposa Montessori School. Breakdown by curriculum area resulted in a total of 43 youth participating in various lessons from the Germ Detective curriculum and 188 youth participating in various lessons from the Team Nutrition curriculum. The 4-H Home Economist continued the collaborative partnership between Santa Fe County 4-H and Girl Scouts. Two separate programs were offered to Girl Scouts in the Santa Fe area; a “Sew it Simply”, a beginner sewing program and “Super Sitter”, a program for girls interested in starting a babysitting business. 36 youth attended the “Sew it Simply” workshop, learning the basics of hand stitching, fabric selection, measuring, and using a sewing machine. At the conclusion of the program each child had completed a felt Girl Scout vest for their teddy bear. 12 youth attended the “Super Sitter” program, learning safety, basic care, leadership and first aid. Program evaluations indicated that 96% of youth gained knowledge and skills needed to start their own babysitting business.
